Toy Story Hotel at Shanghai Disneyland (China)

Toy Story Hotel 8-min

If your kids are fans of Woody and Buzz, then a stay at the Toy Story Hotel in Shanghai Disneyland is a must! Though theming is definitely on point, is it worth the price tag?

Find out from our Toy Story Hotel Shanghai review! Read on.

Advantages of Staying at the Toy Story Hotel:

Toy Story Hotel 23-min

Before we begin the blog review, I want to highlight the top advantages of staying at a Disney Hotel, such as the Toy Story Hotel at Shanghai Disneyland.

  • Complimentary shuttle bus to Shanghai Disneyland and Disneytown
  • Exclusive priority entrance to Shanghai Disneyland via the Disneytown entrance
  • Priority entrance is open earlier than the park’s main opening hours (you can go in earlier!!)

Know that there are many other different options for hotels NEAR Shanghai Disneyland that cost half the price of booking at a Disney hotel (such as the Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, the one we stayed in for the first 2 nights. Review coming soon.) So weigh if these benefits are worth the extra cost for your family.

For us, we decided to book a night here for the whole Toy Story experience. So these benefits were only a bonus!

Now, on to the said Toy Story experience!

Toy Story Hotel at Shanghai Disneyland

As of this article’s writing, Toy Story Hotel is one of two Disney hotels at Shanghai Disneyland Resort.

This is the “budget” option (although, ahem, budget is relative,) as compared to the more luxurious and elegant Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.

The Toy Story theme is evident throughout the hotel; from the lobby, down to the elevators and all the way up to the rooms (which we’ll get into more later!)

Toy Story Hotel 22-min

It was Halloween season when we came and even the halloween decors were on point! Sid’s mutant toys are definitely creepy! 😀

Got our keycard and excited to explore our room! A fun detail to watch out for: the voices at the elevators! You’ll squeal when you hear the green aliens’ voices. Too cute.

Toy Story Hotel 4-min

The hotel has two sections: one for Buzz and one for Woody. Our room was located at the Buzz section.

Hotel Room: Garden View

Toy Story Hotel 2-min

Welcome to our room!! That cloud wallpaper is the cutest, isn’t it? We got the room with two double beds, which was more than enough for our party of three (2 adults and 1 child.)

TIP: Request for bed rails (if needed) beforehand. I forgot to do this and was left with only 1 bed rail. We were hoping to get 2.

Here are some of the Toy Story details around the room.

Woody felt right at home! 😉 (Check out the rubik’s cube table peeking at the bottom right of the photo!)

To be honest, the room was just okay overall. Size was a little small but good enough for an overnight stay (might be tight if you have more than 1 large luggage).

Theming was cute. However, I wasn’t feeling the whole 90’s vibe. I get why the design of the interiors was 90’s inspired (Toy Story was set in that time, after all) but it’s just not my style. Would have preferred a more modern take on Toy Story.

But, meh. That could just be me. My little boy was absolutely enchanted with everything. Haha.

Bathroom and Ameneties

Toy Story Hotel 3-min

Small bathroom but cute shower curtain (who still uses curtains at hotels though? Haha)

Paper cups with Toy Story designs were provided and regular hotel amenities like toothbrush (very basic) Was a little disappointed to find out they don’t give away the tin can kits anymore, which I’ve seen these from other blogs before. We called to ask and they said theycharge for it. Boo

The hotel slippers are cute though, especially the kiddie sized ones! Woody and Buzz emblems!

Hotel Activities

Meet Woody and Jessie!

Toy Story Hotel 5-min

For me, one of the great perks of staying at Toy Story Hotel Shanghai, especially if you’re with younger kids, is getting to see the characters without having to line up! Catch Woody and Jessie hanging around at the lobby or at the courtyard just outside it.

And the best part? No time pressure! Because there’s no line, you can take as many photos as you wish and stay for as long as you want!

Launch Pad: Water Play Area

Toy Story Hotel 9-min

The Launch Pad is a water play place at Woody’s Courtyard where you can hang out in. I believe they hold water games here during the summer season.

It was cold during our stay so we had no desire to try this haha.

Family Activity Center

Toy Story Hotel 16-min

We were given this list of activities upon check-in. The activities look really fun and we would have loved to try some. But we were no longer able to visit the family activity center because we had no time anymore. Maybe next time!

Sunnyside Cafe

Toy Story Hotel 21-min

Sunnyside Cafe is the hotel’s main restaurant and where you have your breakfast buffet. Note that breakfast buffet is NOT included in your room booking. You have to pay an additional for that.

Toy Story Hotel 12-min

Love these cute ceiling decorations.

Toy Story Hotel 15-min

Nothing spectacular, but there was a pretty decent selection for the breakfast buffet.

There’s a dimsum area, congee station, a Chinese hot section, a selection of your typical Western favorites (egg, waffles, etc.) and a “Continental-Assorted Bread” area where you can get the croissants and muffins.

Toy Story Hotel 14-min

Luke devoured the dimsum dishes and it was surprisingly enough to fuel him the entire morning at Disneyland!

Lotso Gift Shop

Toy Story Hotel 20-min

There’s a gift shop inside the hotel for last-minute purchases. I took advantage of this because I was too busy enjoying the park to spend time browsing through items at the shops! Hehe.

Toy Story Hotel 19-min

They have a good selection of Toy Story merchandise. It’s not all Toy Story though. They also have a few items with other Disney favorites (Mickey and the gang, the Disney princesses, Marvel superheroes etc.)

Overall: The Pros and Cons

Toy Story Hotel 6-min

Overall, we had a pleasant stay. There were definitely some great perks. Here’s a summary of the pros and cons for us:

Pros:

  • Convenient to get to Disneyland: Free shuttle bus and priority entrance
  • Super cute theme: Great for Toy Story fans
  • Wonderful Disney service: They were patient to accommodate all my requests (had to have a lot of items frozen because I was pumping milk) and inquiries
  • No lines for Woody and Jessie!

Cons:

  • More expensive compared to other hotels in the area
  • Rooms are small, for the price
  • Room design could be improved (personal preference)
