Should You Bring Your Baby to Universal Studios Singapore?

It’s no secret that Universal Studios Singapore is geared more for older kids. However, if your traveling party includes a baby, you may be wondering how it will be like should you decide to bring the baby with you.

Well, we did just that! Here are some tips and things to know when you’re traveling to Universal Studios Singapore with a baby.

Hand-held Infants are not allowed on most rides

If you’re bringing a baby, know that you won’t be able to ride on a lot of rides as long as you’re taking the baby WITH you on it. Yes, not even the Madagascar boat ride.

Some of the attractions you can take baby in include King Julien’s Beach Party Go-Round (only on one of the chariots) and Shrek 4-D. However, keep in mind that Shrek 4-D takes place inside a dark theatre. Also, the sounds are loud so it may not be an ideal setting for your baby. Mine cried and we had to exit the theatre less than 3 minutes in.

Check out the official rider’s guide for reference.

You can take advantage of Child Swap

Universal Studios Singapore offers a Child Swap program where one parent watches over the child while the other goes on the ride. After, you can swap places without having to rejoin the line! Yay!

No photos of us doing that because unfortunately, I wasn’t aware of this when we went! Found out only later on that they had this program. Huhu. So Mor and I ended up doing the “traditional child swap,” which was where one of us held the baby outside while the other rode with Luke. Haha.

Dirty Nappies? There are Changing Facilities

Most, if not all of the restrooms I was able to visit had some form of changing area. Nothing fancy but they all had a nice, clean, cushioned changing space you can use.

There’s also a Baby Care Centre at the front of the park near the entrance. I wasn’t able to personally visit. But according to the website, the Baby Care Centre has a private room for nursing mothers, a baby changing area, and facilities to prepare and warm formula milk.

And if You’re Breastfeeding…

As mentioned above, the nursing facility is located near the entrance. And let’s be honest; would you go all the way back to the entrance each time your baby needs to feed?

From my experience, it was a little hard to find a nice place to nurse Dylan.

It was really hot outside, which made it so uncomfortable. And unless you go inside a restaurant, there are not a lot of benches or seats around the park.

There was one time where I had to wait for Mor and Luke on a ride. It was taking them so long so I decided to wait inside a gift shop where there was airconditioning. Unfortunately, there were no seats inside the gift shop and wouldn’t you know it? The boys took around 45 minutes to come back for us. Huhu.

Don’t Expect Food Options for Baby

If your baby is used to fresh food and/or if your baby is just beginning solids, it would be best to bring your own. There are not a lot of options in Universal Studios Singapore. At the Fat Friar for example (where we had our lunch,) only burgers and similar food items were being sold. There were no soft food options.

For us, Dylan at that time has been eating soft, mashed fruits and vegetables only. So to be sure, I brought with me papaya slices and placed it on the insulated pocket of our backpack.

Overall Verdict: Universal Studios Singapore with a Baby

Honestly, bringing a baby to Universal Studios Singapore is not ideal. It’s hot, baby won’t be able to do much and you’ll also be very limited with what you can do.

For us, Dylan mostly just fed and slept. He may look like he “had fun” looking around but I’m sure all the lights, sounds and colors were too overstimulating for a 7-month old. Universal Studios was more for my 4 year old, who had an amazing time.

But if you’re really bringing your baby with you, don’t worry about it! Despite everything, we still had fun. And if you come prepared, it will be much easier for you, definitely!

True mommy. The idea of bringing a child in the place that full of rides and super loud sounds is a no no. They might be irritated instead of feeling enjoy. Thanks for sharing the thoughts about this Mommy Sheena! :)

My husband and I love to travel but after I gave birth so Sofia I spent most of my time at home taking care of her. Now that she’s already 8 months old, I thought it’s already a good time to take her with us for a vaction in SG. I was planning to bring her to USS pa naman sana. I’m glad i got to read this article. Hindi pa nya ma enjoy/appreciate ang USS talaga. Maybe we’ll just make use of our time enjoying the scenery and create beautiful memories with the fam. 😉
