My 5 Year Old’s Daily Homeschool Kindergarten Schedule

I’ve been asked about our schedule so many times but I’ve always hesitated when it comes to writing an entry about it. One reason is because I’m afraid of judgy eyes (haha, a story for another day!) and the other more weighty reason is because our schedule changes almost every month.

But I think that’s one of the beauties of homeschooling. We can be flexible and change things when things are not working well for the student (or the parent.) So today, I’m sharing our current homeschool schedule (at the time of this writing,) and some notes to consider about it!

Our Homeschool Kindergarten Schedule

Notes to Consider:

• The schedule is very flexible: It serves more as our guide or goal. As mentioned, we don’t follow it to the dot daily. To be honest, that would benearly impossible even if I wanted to because we have a toddler. Ha.
• Mornings = Study Time: All our academics are scheduled in the morning. This is right after breakfast and after my morning chores. This is also when Luke and I are most alert and also, exactly when the toddler takes his nap.
• Afternoons = Free Time / Crafts: I used to put lots of goals in the afternoon but they always put too much pressure on us. So instead, I labelled them all FREE TIME. In reality, this is when we do our crafts, experiments and other fun projects that Luke wants to do. Since they are fun, they feel like “free time” to him (and that’s very important as I’ll explain on the next point!)
• Free Times are highlighted: This schedule is posted on my wall and Luke constantly refers to it. He likes having structure and knowing what to anticipate next. Luke also treasures his “Free Time.” He uses it to do his self-imposed projects (which lately have all been NASA worksheets or crafts) So, we always make an agreement to finish our schoolwork in the morning. It makes both of us happy! 😀
• Blue highlights are online classes: Highlighted them using a striking color so that we don’t forget to turn Zoom on. 😉
