Luke’s Superhero Birthday Party

Luke wanted to celebrate his birthday as Dash from The Incredibles! So we took the opportunity to host an intimate superhero party with his friends.

Sharing photos from his special day plus details on how we DIY’ed some of the decor at the end of the article!

A Superhero Costume Party

One of Luke’s all-time favorite character is Dash but he said he didn’t want to have just an “Incredibles”-themed party. So instead, as per his request, we hosted a superhero party where all his friends could dress up as their own favorite superheroes!

I designed a simple e-invite that featured the Incredibles in a minimalist fashion. Like I said when I designed Luke’s Lightning McQueen room, I would agree to character themes as long as I am given the freedom to design them in a non-tacky way. Hahaha. Just kidding… (sort of hehehe)

(Disclaimer: I did not illustrate The Incredibles illustration featured above.)

Featuring the Supers!

Dylan: “What did I get myself into?!”

Luke really wanted us to wear costumes but I didn’t wanna wear a costume that didn’t have nursing access (lol) and Mor didn’t want to spend unnecessarily (haha!) so that means, I had to improvise! I printed the Incredibles logo and stuck it on our existing shirts. Gotta be resourceful!

Here come the boys! Captain America, Thor, Dash, Catboy and Spiderman, everybody!

And the girls as Owlette and Darna! I love that we have a Darna! Haha. 😀

Washable Hair Color Spray

Luke insisted that his look wouldn’t be complete without coloring his hair blonde! So we sprayed his hair with Cospray (it’s a washable hair color spray that’s safe for kids!)

We had the cutest blue-haired Captain America! 😉

No escape for the dads either. Haha. Mor sported blonde hair that day too!

Captain America and (Asian) Dash! Hehehe.

Luke really loves Cospray so we also gave these away to our guests. Hehe. It’s washes off easily with shampoo!

Craft Time with Oli’s Boxship

Instead of the usual party games, we opted to have arts and crafts time! So we got Oli’s Boxship On-the-Go boxes for all the kids.

If you follow us on Instagram, you know that we love our monthly Oli’s Boxship subscription. In fact, we also had them last year when Luke celebrated his birthday at the orphanage.

I LOVE that the boxes had a personal touch too! They incorporated Luke’s photo and invite design in the box itself. Isn’t it the cutest?

Outdoor time! We set up tables and chairs outdoors. Praise God that we had a rare cool breeze that day!

Am I the only who found it extremely adorable to see tiny superheroes painting? Haha!

Fun time with the parents, too!

“Chocolate With No White Parts” Cake

After a good art session, the kids were excited to blow the cake!

Luke’s cake request was a chocolate cake with “no white parts” (he usually doesn’t like anything that has vanilla or cream!) I had to ask on my IG stories for suggestions where to get a cake like that (haha!)

Someone suggested Mary Grace’s Chocolate Cake and because there was a Mary Grace near our place, that’s what we got! He loved it!

Because I had just given birth, I had absolutely no time to have a cake made. So I just bought mini figures of The Incredibles online (thank God for online shopping) and stuck them on the cake. Yay, easy peasy!

And what’s awesome about it is Luke can still play with them after!

Happy 4th birthday to our favorite first-born son!

Time to Eat!

Even superheroes need time to chow!

Ordered from our favorite food delivery service: Hot Dish.

You have to try their Pancit Sisig and Pichi-Pichi (the absolute best! I’m not even kidding!)

Thank You!

Thank you to our wonderful friends for celebrating with us! It’s rare that Luke gets the chance to play with a LOT of kids his age (being homeschooled and having no cousins or neighbors his age! Eeep.) so it was a real treat to have everyone that day! He kept saying he had a wonderful time and wanted to play with all the kids again soon!

(Missing a lot of people in this photo! So sorry I forgot to take a proper group picture before people started leaving! Also missing our friends who couldn’t make it that day. See you all soon!)

Working on the DIY Decors with Luke

As mentioned, I didn’t really have the time (nor the energy) to plan a full on party since I just gave birth to Dylan. So for the decor, everything was DIY. And to kill two birds with one stone, I let Luke help make them as part of his art activity for homeschool. Haha!

To make the cityscape backdrop: we cut black cartolina and pasted yellow squares!

Giveaway Bags: I printed The Incredibles logo and had Luke stick them on red paper bags. Simple but cute! (Got the idea from Pinterest!)

Final Words for Our Little Dash!

To my dearest Super Lukey/”Dash”,

It seemed like only yesterday that I was carrying tiny little you in my arms. Now you’re a funny, witty, honest, chatty little man who loves singing, cooking and all things silly. I love everything about you and I can’t wait to know you more and more each day as you grow! Continue to make so many people happy just by being YOU!

We love you more than our hearts could contain. But always remember: who loves you the most? That’s right, it’s Jesus! Don’t forget to thank Him for everything!
