Hello, Dylan!

Dylan Birth 1-min

Say hello to our new little adventurer, Dylan.

After an up-and-down pregnancy, the day finally came when we got to meet our latest addition! Here’s a glimpse of how our new life as a family of 4 started. Sharing with you all photos from Dylan’s arrival and the little stories that made our first few days special!

… Beginning with the 2am Contractions

Dylan Birth 11-min

Yup, 2am! We didn’t sleep a wink!

When my contractions started, we quickly decided to go straight to the hospital since it was a long drive from where we lived. I quickly scribbled up notes for Luke so he wouldn’t panic when he wakes to find out we were no longer in our room.

(Photo taken after we got back. Obviously not at 2am anymore, haha)

Excited to give birth! Since I was diagnosed borderline gestational diabetes during this pregnancy, I was sooo ready to pop already and be able eat my carbs again! Hehe. I missed my breads and pastas!

Also, contractions are crazy painful so don’t let my smile fool you! This was taken in between contractions and as my husband was trying to make me laugh.

Mor’s role was clown and entertainer for 13 hours. Haha! Yup, I was going through labor for half a day! Huhu.

Dylan Birth 20-min

Once I had my epidural and was a little bit more relaxed, it got a little boring (hahaha) Good thing I brought my Kindle with me. 😉

Finally, after 13+ hours…

Dylan Birth 5-min

After all the hoopla, we finally meet Dylan!! First time to see the baby that’s been growing inside my tummy for more than 9 months!

Dylan Birth 18-min

Always so surreal to meet for the first time someone you know you’ll know your entire life. It was the same wonderful feeling I got the first time I held my first born, Luke.

I am rewarded with pizza!

Dylan Birth 6-min

I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink the entire time during labor. And you have to remember, I wasn’t allowed carbs or sweets the entire time during my pregnancy too! So I was definitely starving and craving! Haha.

The moment the doctors said I can finally eat, I begged my husband to please, please grab me pizza! He said yes and ran to get it for me. Heehee. I’m a happy wife!

Hello, Dylan Clyde

Dylan Birth 2-min

In most things, Mor and I have completely different tastes (movies, music, you name it!) so it was no surprise that we had a pretty hard time agreeing on a name. Thankfully, “Dylan” was one of the few names that both of us agreed on. “Dylan” means “son of the sea, son of the wave.”

Coincidentally, the second name we agreed on was “Clyde” which was taken from the River Clyde in Scotland. As mentioned before, we are naming our kids after places (Luke’s second name is Halden which is a city in Norway) as an ode to our love for traveling. We also plan to make it a family tradition to visit each of “their place” together when they are older, if God will allow it.

Dylan Birth 19-min

We didn’t really mean to give him names with “water” as a theme. But I thought it was still a nice coincidence. (I think I have a 1st birthday party theme already haha!)

It also reminded me of these two verses in the Bible: “More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty.” (Psalm 93:4) and “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.” (Isaiah 43:2)

I pray that Dylan will always feel God’s overflowing love for him and that he will always remember that his God is the God who stills the waters and is mightier than the waves of the sea.

First Meeting with Ahia Luke

Dylan Birth 14-min

Luke was waiting in the hospital room as Dylan and I were wheeled in and he was just sooo excited to meet his new baby brother!

Dylan Birth 16-min

Luke climbed up my bed and sang Dylan a song. He sang to him the chorus of Elizabeth Mitchell’s “Froggie Went a Courtin’.” It’s now one of those memories I will forever treasure in my heart!

Best Husband & Dad Award

Dylan Birth 15-min

Mor probably wouldn’t want me to announce that to the world but he really was amazing the entire time! He always is, to be honest, but he was extra amazing during my pregnancy and all the way to my labor and delivery.

He really made sure I didn’t have anything else to think about except Dylan. Mor took care of all the paper work, spoke with doctors, fixed my Chinese medicines, went out to buy whatever I needed and also made sure everything back at home, and with Luke, was great.

I couldn’t have asked for a better person to go through life with.

Best Big Brother Award!

Dylan Birth 8-min

Of course, we can’t end this post without commending Luke, now promoted to “big brother!” He’s been wonderful the entire time too, helping daddy and always trying his best to comfort Dylan whenever he would cry. Good job, Lukey!

I can’t wait for you both to share many memories together!

Coming up next on the blog: how we prepared Luke for his first meeting with Dylan! Haha. Catch it next week! 😉
